The average price of unleaded in 2016 was $1.08 a gallon, according the AAA survey.
The cheapest gasoline in 2016 for the average consumer was $2.18 a gallon.
A gallon of gasoline can cost between $3.98 and $5.99 in retail stores and can cost more depending on the blend used and other factors.
